Free event honors local military personnel and veterans at Roger Williams Park.
Mayor Angel Taveras this evening honored the service and sacrifices of the nearly 100 veterans, active military personnel and their families at the City of Providence's 3rd Annual Barbeque for Veterans and Military Families.
"I am deeply appreciative to all those who have worn the uniform of the United States Armed Forces and the military families who have sacrificed so much for our nation," said Mayor Taveras. "It is our solemn duty to serve our veterans as well as they have served us by providing support and services that help them return to the workforce, find affordable housing and access first-rate healthcare."
All area veterans were invited to attend the free barbeque dinner served on the lawn of the Roger Williams Park Casino.
The event was sponsored by the City of Providence Healthy Communities Office and was organized by Providence VetCorps, a full-time AmeriCorps position in the Healthy Communities Office. The mission of Providence VetCorps is to increase the capacity and access to housing, healthcare, and employment services for veterans, military service members, and their families in Providence.
