Mayor Taveras Proclaims February 16, 2012 Will Blackmon Day in the City of Providence

WHEREAS, Will Blackmon, a Providence native, attracted attention early on at Bishop Henricken High School in Warwick where he earned 2001 All-America first-team honors from USA Today, ESPN and others, later playing with tremendous dedication at Boston College and drafted in the 4th Round of the 2006 NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers; and

WHEREAS, to the chagrin of many across New England, Will Blackmon played an important role in the New York Giants' 2011 success, ending the season as a Super Bowl Champion; and

WHEREAS, Will Blackmon has given generously of his time to assist such organizations as Pop Warner - creating the Providence Packers, which his father manages - and has involved himself in food drives, high school football field refurbishing, the Salvation Army, families of children with cancer and a ministry created for professional athletes, among many other worthy causes; and

WHEREAS, the residents of Providence warmly welcome Will Blackmon on this special day and congratulate him on his many achievements thus far in his career, presenting him with a Key to the City and wishing him continued success as one of the most highly regarded players of the game of football;
