
WHEREAS, the health and well-being of our residents is of primary concern for the City of Providence; and
WHEREAS, promoting safe and healthy diets is critical to improving the overall health of all residents, and especially children; and
WHEREAS, increasing access to affordable, healthy foods reduces obesity and diet-related diseases and particularly benefits populations who are burdened with higher rates of these conditions; and
WHEREAS, encouraging the continued growth of sustainable local agriculture and community gardens is integral to reducing food insecurity in the City and builds on Providence's record as a national leader in urban agriculture; and
WHEREAS, supporting local businesses throughout Providence that provide healthy food options to their customers is crucial to our City's economy, health, and overall well-being; and
WHEREAS, creating opportunities for food production and composting will build the local infrastructure necessary to support our local food system and sustain future generations; and
WHEREAS, strengthening our food system, protecting the environment, and improving the health of residents will take creativity, dedication, and collaboration among consumers, advocates, businesses, and City officials:
