Mayor Taveras Renews Call for Coats and Warm Winter Clothing

Monday, January 24, 2011

PROVIDENCE - Mayor Angel Taveras today called out to area residents and business leaders to donate coats and warm winter clothing to the Mayor's Coat Drive, so these needed garments can be given to City residents most in need during this dangerously cold weather.

The Mayor renewed the call for new or gently used coats, socks, sweatshirts and sweatpants, boots, blankets, gloves and hats. Donated items will be given to the Rhode Island Donation Exchange and Crossroads Rhode Island for distribution.

Donation bins are located at Providence City Hall, the Providence Public Safety Complex, Providence Public Schools' administrative offices, the Providence Water Supply Board, and both the Department of Recreation and the Department of Parks at the Boathouse. Checks may also be made payable directly to Rhode Island Donation Exchange or Crossroads Rhode Island.

"I urge all residents to look out for their fellow neighbors during these bitterly cold days, and help out however you can - donating clothing, shoveling walks and checking on seniors and disabled residents," Mayor Taveras said.
