Mayor Taveras Stops by Bob & Timmy’s Pizza, Celebrates Small Business Week

Friday, June 1, 2012

Mayor Angel Taveras stopped by Bob & Timmy's Pizza on Federal Hill to applaud Jose Sanchez and Richard Remeika, the restaurant's owners, for receiving the Joseph G.E. Knight SCORE Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence.

Mark S. Hayward, RI Director of the U.S. Small Business Administration, joined the Mayor as part of the celebration of Small Business Week in Rhode Island.

"Small businesses employ more than half of all working Rhode Islanders. That's a powerful statistic that underscores the importance of these smaller companies to our families, our neighborhoods and our economy," said Mayor Angel Taveras.

Sanchez and Remeika began managing the restaurant back in 2001, Jose as a Guatemalan émigré who was employed there as a dishwasher originally, and Richard, who bussed tables. The two bought the business in 2007, with the help of SCORE and the RI Small Business Development Center at Johnson & Wales, who worked closely with the pair to write their business plan and help them secure financing.
