Mayor Taveras Welcomes Miss Latina United States Sasha Zacarias Home to Providence

On Thursday, Mayor Angel Taveras welcomed Miss Latina United States Sasha Zacarias to City Hall. Born in Dominican Republic, Sasha Zacarias is a Providence resident and the newly crowned Miss Latina United States.

Zacarias graduated from Classical High School and obtained an undergraduate degree from the University of Rhode Island in Human Development & Family Studies. She has competed in numerous pageants and was crowned Miss RI Latina 2007 before going on to the Miss USA Latina 2008 pageant, where she was the second runner up. Zacarias then moved to New York to compete in the Miss Dominican Republic United States 2009 pageant, where she finished as the third runner up. In 2010, Zacarias was selected to represent the Dominican Republic in Reina Internacional de la Costa where she received prizes for finishing as the first runner up, Miss Elegance and Best National Costume.

Sasha Zacarias received the title of Miss Latina United States in Cancun, Mexico on June 2, 2012. She followed her national title win just one week later with a proud sixth place finish in the Miss Latin America of the World Pageant, representing the United States. There, she also received the important Continental Queen Award for North America and the Caribbean, recognizing her academic excellence and outstanding achievements.

Zacarias currently works in the Attorney General's office in the Consumer Protection Unit.
