Mayor Taveras Welcomes Ready to Learn Providence AmeriCorps Team to City Hall

Thursday, August 23, 2012

Earlier this week, Mayor Angel Taveras welcomed the 35 members of the AmeriCorps program working on Providence's Ready to Learn initiative this year to Providence City Hall. These team members will serve in Head Start classrooms, child care centers, pediatric clinics, and libraries to help ensure school readiness for children entering kindergarten in Providence.

With the city's strong focus on cultivating 3rd grade reading levels, AmeriCorps members play an important role in setting Providence students on an early path to achieving their goals.

"AmeriCorps members are a critical part of achieving our goals of making sure children enter kindergarten healthy and ready to learn in Providence," said Mayor Taveras. "I'm so grateful for your commitments to supporting school readiness and early child development in our City this year."
