New Providence Neighborhood Farmers Market Opening in July

Thursday, July 7, 2011

Fresh produce is everywhere this summer, and more farmers markets are opening across the state this July to provide fresh, local food to Rhode Islanders.

Farm Fresh Rhode Island has partnered with the Providence Housing Authority to open the new Hartford Avenue Farmers Market located at 370 Hartford Avenue. Join Mayor Angel Taveras at the new Hartford Avenue Market on July 13th from 3-4pm for a ribbon cutting ceremony and health fair.

You can also meet the Mayor at the Broad Street Market located at the Algonquin House, 807 Broad Street, on July 16th from 11-12pm where he will join Johnson and Wales University for their cooking demonstration kick off. The market will also feature members of the Southside Community Land Trust Community Growers, who are harvesting food in the neighborhood.

All farmers markets have fresh and nutritious fruits, herbs and vegetables such as tomatoes, blueberries, basil, summer squash, eggplant, and sweet corn. You can also find flowers, vegetable seeding and much more! Farmers markets are also a great source for local eggs, dairy and meat.

Come join Mayor Angel Taveras and support your local farmers!

Customers may use cash, credit, debit, EBT card, Senior Coupons, WIC Farmers Market Coupons and WIC Fruit and Vegetable Checks at all the markets. Farmers' Market tokens (Fresh Bucks) can also be purchased on-site.
