Capital City again honored as "Playful City USA," recognized for prioritizing children's play.
Providence has earned recognition from the national nonprofit KaBOOM! as a 2013 Playful City USA community, in honor of the city's efforts to provide children with ample opportunities for play. Providence was also honored with the designation in 2012.
"I am pleased to be a part of Playful Providence and support healthy play for children in our city," said Mayor Angel Taveras. "Safe opportunities for play are an important part of healthy childhood development and promotes successful outcomes later in life."

Playful Providence events will be held from May through September to engage children and families across the Providence in play and draw attention to the important role that the Partnership for Providence Parks and volunteer parks groups have in creating great places to play in our city.
Event are planned by the City of Providence, the Partnership for Providence Parks, the Providence Children's Museum, the Mental Health Association of Rhode Island, Friends of India Point Park, and other partners.
