"Earth Day is an important day to recommit ourselves to the work that will leave future generations a better, more sustainable city than we were left," said Mayor Taveras. "Our efforts to protect our communities against pollution, litter and unsustainable practices must be at the forefront of everything we do."
Last year, Mayor Taveras was the first mayor in the United States to sign onto the Green and Healthy Homes Initiative. On Saturday, the Mayor is scheduled to stop by several neighborhood clean up and tree planting events across the city, including the Providence Planting Program in the Upper Providence/West End Neighborhood; the Olneyville/Valley Neighborhood Forum on Green and Healthy Homes and Neighborhood Sustainability; Providence College's 6th annual Friars United for Service in Our Neighborhood (FUSION) event and the Community Clean Up Day in South Providence.
A complete list of scheduled neighborhood cleanups for this weekend and the weeks ahead can be found on the Office of Neighborhood Services online calendar.
