Providence Schools Announces Delay of Start for Three Schools

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

Providence Schools announces a delay in the start of school at three of its schools.

Due to an ongoing power outage at Carl G. Lauro Elementary School, the school will be closed on Wednesday, August 31. Providence Schools will update families as the situation evolves.

The Fortes and Lima Elementary Schools, which share the Leviton complex on Daboll Street, will open on Tuesday, September 6. The rain and wind from Tropical Storm Irene delayed necessary roof repairs and contributed further to leaking and water damage. In order to make needed repairs and ensure that students are placed in safe, dry classrooms, the school will remain closed for the rest of this week. It is critical to note that this applies only to the main building of Fortes and Lima. The Dual Language program in the Lima annex, located on Greenwich Avenue, will begin school as planned on Wednesday, August 31.

Administrators will be in both buildings and will ensure the safety of any child who may arrive to the schools without having received the cancellation notice. Teachers are asked to report to both buildings and will continue preparation efforts.

Families are reminded that the Providence Schools Parent Call Center at 456-0686 is an important resource for questions related to back-to-school.
