A public hearing will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 5:30 PM in the City Council Chambers at Providence City Hall in accordance with Executive Order Number 2011-3 relative to the creation of a Minority and Women's Business Enterprise Procurement Task Force. The public is invited to express their concerns and/or recommendations before the Task Force. Those interested will have an opportunity to be heard and/or to submit communication in writing. Below is an excerpt from Executive Order 2011-3:

  • The Task Force shall perform an organizational assessment of the existing MBE/WBE and procurement structure, policies, and procedures and establish separate goals for MBE's and WBE's.
  • The Task Force shall include in its research the best practices regionally and nationally that have achieved quantifiable results.
  • The Task Force shall review and analyze the historical rates of MBE/WBE participation in city contracts, through the records of the Board of Contract and Supply.
  • The Task Force shall organize a public hearing, engage relevant community, business and labor stakeholders, and invite appropriate administrative staff to provide important internal and external information.
