I was deeply saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Providence Police Officer John Reposa, Jr. in a tragic road accident last night. Officer Reposa was a veteran officer who served our City with distinction and honor.
Officer Reposa served in the patrol division, the motorcycle squad, the narcotics bureau and traffic bureau and was a member of the Providence Police Honor Guard and the Police Pipes and Drums Corps. He had a big personality and a big heart and was well liked by the community and his fellow officers, who nicknamed him 'All City John' because he was always there to provide backup.
Officer Reposa will be remembered for going beyond the call of duty last year, when he and a fellow officer safely returned a child who wandered off to her family, and then personally replaced an iPad that the child had lost. His compassion and integrity will never be forgotten.
Providence Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 3 Recording Secretary Michael Imondi said it best: "John was always all in when it came to work and play, always with that smile and a handshake. … Mere words cannot express how much he will be missed."
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Reposa family during this difficult time. I have ordered that all City flags be flown at half-mast in Officer Reposa's honor as the City of Providence mourns his passing.
