Street Closures in Providence this Sunday, August 7 for Rock 'N' Roll Half-Marathon

Thursday, August 4, 2011

On Sunday, August 7, the inaugural Rock 'n' Roll Providence Half Marathon will take place from 7AM to 11:30AM in Providence. The arrival of this nationally recognized event in Providence will provide an economic boost to the City as racers, spectators and event staff and volunteers take advantage of nearby hotels, restaurants and retail shops.

The 13.1 mile race course begins on Gaspee Street in front of the State House and runs through the East Side and into downtown Providence, finishing on Francis Street in front of the State House.

Streets will be closed for the event, which is expected to draw more than 10,000 runners and thousands of spectators into the city. Street closures will begin prior to the race early Sunday morning and will be rolling, with the first closures occurring in the vicinity of the race start line on Gaspee Street. A small number of major roads will be closed for the duration of the event; Gaspee and Francis Streets in the vicinity of the finish line will be closed until 5PM for cleanup.

The majority of streets will reopen before 12PM. No residential streets will remain closed for the entire event. Race organizers have leafleted all streets that will be affected with a street closure notice and schedule of closures.
