Mayor Taveras joins 10 YouthBuild grads set to embark on renovation project in the Wanskuck neighborhood.
On Friday, July 1, Mayor Angel Taveras joined graduates of the YouthBuild Providence program, along with their partner The Community Builders to announce the renovation of two apartment buildings at the Olmstead Commons, located in the Wanskuck neighborhood in Providence.
"Partnerships like this, between YouthBuild and The Community Builders, help to strengthen our entire community and our City by opening the doors to a rewarding career for our youth, our future workforce," said the Mayor. "Not only will some of the future residents of Olmstead Commons get a newly renovated place to call home, but they should also be proud that it was built for them by the young men and women of YouthBuild Providence."
Some of the project goals include: replacing kitchen cabinets, installing bathroom vanities, closing in sky lights and power washing and painting the buildings. The partnership will provide a bridge to employment for YouthBuild students and graduates and provide opportunities for careers in the real estate field, including internships in facilities management and full-time jobs in construction and housing administration.
