
Homeschool Adventures are programs held at the Museum of Natural History for local homeschool families. Programs run the first Monday of each month (October through June), from 10:00am to 12:30pm and are organized around a different theme or topic. Special scavenger hunts, crafts and activity tables are available throughout the duration of the program to engage families. In addition, scheduled tours, planetarium shows and workshops are offered. No one under age 4 permitted in the workshops or planetarium. Museum is closed to the public on homeschool days.
October 7, 2013: Radical Raptors
Discover what makes these birds of prey so fascinating. Get an up close look at their unique talons, beaks and feathers, even their lunch, as you explore characteristics and habitats of raptors from near and far.

November 4, 2013: Captivating Comets and Investigating Impacts
Explore what comets are, and where they come from. Discover other collisions and even near misses that happen in our cosmic neighborhood. Utilize the Museum's newest exhibit in this exciting, hands-on space adventure.

December 2, 2013: Museum Miscellany: Collections Revealed
Snow Date: December 9, 2013
The history of the Museum and its extensive collections will be revealed in this exciting program. Who were the people that collected all these specimens? Where and why did they collect these items? How did they come to be here, at the Museum? The newly revamped and updated Natural Selections exhibit will help uncover the curious Victorian period and the Museum's rich history.

January 6, 2014: Rock out with Geology
Snow Date: January 13, 2014
From majestic mountains to the deepest canyons, the Earth's stories are locked within its rocks. Learn how to uncover these stories in stone. Bring a rock from your own collection and have our geologist ID it, or try to stump him!

February 3, 2014: Amazing Astronomy

Gaze with us into the night sky and behold its wonder. The stars can be a clock or a compass - explore the seasonal changes and constellations that mark them. Trace pictures in the night sky and learn the stories behind them.

March 3, 2014: Wild and Wacky Weather

Hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards, heat waves… the weather has such a profound impact on our lives! Explore where it comes from and how it's predicted. Come be a meteorologist for the day!

April 7, 2014: Magnificent Mammals
What could humans possibly have in common with bears, whales and deer? As it turns out, a lot! Investigate the magnificent mammals around Earth - what they have in common and what makes them unique! Museum specimens will be used to bring this exciting topic to life. Get an up close look at mammals from around the world.

May 5, 2014: Desert Diversity
Hot and dry deserts of the world are fascinating places that are made up of much more than sand and cacti! Discover the plants and animals that call these places home and how they adapt to such extreme conditions.

June 2, 2014: H2O-My! Earth's Waters
The Earth's surface is nearly 75% covered with wet, wet stuff! From massive oceans to pristine lakes, and even the ponds here in Roger Williams Park. Explore bodies of water, water testing and conservation and how this precious resource makes life on Earth possible in so many ways.

$10 per family (up to 4 people) if pre-registered and pre-paid.
$15 per family (up to 4 people) if you register the day of the event.
