Pet Passions: Collecting the
Victorian World
The late 19th century was an era of fascination with all
things natural. Flora and fauna graced interior home décor and ladies’
fashions. Nearly everyone collected something from Nature: seaweeds,
butterflies, pressed plants, and the like. The handiwork of “vanishing”
cultures was also avidly collected. This Museum, founded in 1896, is a
living tribute to this period. Curator Marilyn Massaro will lead a trip
back in time to explore through period exhibits and collections.
