ATWELLS AVENUE

Atwells Avenue, where daytime Old World Charm meets the city's vibrant nightlife.  The gateway to Providence's historic Federal Hill is noted as one of the “Top Ten List of Things to See” when visiting Rhode Island.

 

Passing under its famous archway, visitors entering today's Atwells Avenue are greeted with a vision of park benches filled with seniors, a local neighborhood park, a church, and some of the city's best historic and new neighborhood storefront architecture. 

 

You don't drive Atwells Avenue…you walk…Strolling along, you quickly notice the abundance of flowers, boutique style stores, and specialty markets. There's even a neighborhood square.  But clearly it's the site of alfresco dining and fragrant aromas that makes Atwells Avenue among the state's best know restaurant destinations.  Originally, known as the Little Italy of Providence, the abundance of Italian restaurants is now enriched with Chinese, Korean, Mexican cuisine and more. Want something more casual? Then visit the array of small cafes for snacks and takeout.  Don’t want to eat dessert at the same restaurant? There are dessert bars and bakeries enough to make you smile.
