BROAD STREET
Welcome to the Broad Street Neighborhood Market! This historic area dates back to the state's founding father Roger Williams (1635) and over a span of 300 years grew as a major commercial way not only for the neighborhood but as the city's connection to nearby communities as well. Coming from the downcity, the gateway to the Broad Street Neighborhood Market is the historic Grace Church Cemetery (ca. 1834 - 1840)....take a left at the fork in the road and begin your experience in this vibrant business district….
On Broad Street, an eclectic mix of tenements, towering religious structures and traditional storefronts thrive among spectacular, rehabilitated historic buildings. This Neighborhood Market area hums as a new generation of the city's immigrants and long time residents call South Providence home…
Locally known as Upper Broad Street and Lower Broad Street, this commercial area is 1.3 miles long and represents more than 120 merchants with a wide variety of businesses including retail, medical, transportation, arts, human service, personal and beauty care services. As with all our Neighborhood Market areas, the restaurants, cafés and clubs are where you will meet residents, nearby workers, politicians, vendors, artists, and other locals to learn about neighborhood culture and special events. Whether buying a treat from street vendor, partying at the many clubs, ordering takeout or waiting for your table at a bustling eatery, everyone enjoys the fusion of Caribbean, Latin, American, African and Asian restaurants.
Be daring! Push yourself to try something new! But most importantly remember - visitors are always welcome in the Broad Street Neighborhood Market area!
