CHALKSTONE AVENUE
At first glace, the Chalkstone Avenue Neighborhood Market area might look like a traditional Providence neighborhood but look deeper and you will see the word traditional is hardly the case! Neighborhood businesses on Chalkstone reflect the new Providence with European, Asian, Central and South American influences in its stores, services and friendly merchants. The area is part of the city's Elmhurst neighborhood.
Historic Davis Park, part of the city's greenway system and an important recreation facility, anchors the Chalkstone Avenue Neighborhood Market area. Passing by the park and traveling west on Chalkstone, visitors will sense neighborhood life abounds with schools, hospitals, friendly barbershops, nail salons, law offices, car dealership, flower and laundry services and more. While the storefronts and houses reflect the scale and style of 1900 era tenements, it's what is inside that makes you want to explore…and Chalkstone Avenue has something for the adventurer in all of us!
At the end of Chalkstone Avenue is the historic Triggs golf course owned by the City of Providence Parks Department and operated by a private vendor under a lease agreement. Home to several major local and regional tournaments each year, Triggs was designed by Donald Ross in the 1920's and is acknowledged as one of the best municipal golf courses in New England. Over 50,000 rounds of golf are played a year on the course which has lower rates for seniors and Providence residents.
