CHARLES STREET
Whichever way you enter into the Charles Street Neighborhood Market area, you first notice Hopkins Park, created by the City of Providence in 1909. Better known as the North End, the neighborhood around Hopkins Park includes an historic church, friendly local fire station, schools, fish and tackle shop, barber, travel agency, dry cleaner, a community center and a large collection of turn of the 19th century multi-family houses along with post WWII single-family residences.
Park and walk is the best way to experience Charles Street. Have lunch at one of the small neighborhood restaurants while you prepare your shopping list, because everything you need to create a gourmet meal and entertain - from flowers to dessert - is available on Charles Street.
Customer service is the goal on Charles Street, so if you have any questions, ask for the owner - who is usually onsite.Mark your calendar for the St. Ann's Church Annual Feast held each year in July. Renowned as a neighborhood gathering point and tourist destination, you will feel the old and the new come together with Italian and Latin aromas filling the night air.
The North End is a neighborhood in transition with dedicated political, small business, artistic and residential support working to regain the essence of Charles Street as a vibrant place to live, work and visit.
