THAYER STREET

Open from early morning until late at night, it seems Thayer Street never sleeps!

Thayer Street, located in the College Hill Historic District, a national Historic Register District, is a funky mix of students, parents, professors, shops, the Brown University Bookstore and restaurants of every kind.  When you visit Thayer Street, you hear languages from around the world and smell the foods of many cultures.  And you stroll along Thayer Street, you never know when global celebrities will be walking along with you as they tour the area.

Thayer Street is within walking distance of Brown University campus and Providence's nationally known Benefit Street - otherwise known as A Mile of History as well as the internationally acclaimed Rhode Island School of Design and its museums housing a collection of 84,000 objects of international significance. Nearby is also the headquarters of the Providence Preservation Society.

Thayer Street is also home to the art deco style Avon Cinema (c. 1938) known for featuring an eclectic mix of foreign and domestic films.
