Providence Parks & Recreation Athletic Coordinator To Officate At NCAA Final Four This Weekend In Houston

Michael Stephens, the Athletic Coordinator for the City of Providence Department of Parks & Recreation, has been selected to officiate at the NCAA Final Four this weekend in Houston, Texas.


Stephens grew up on Kenwood Street and graduated from Central High School in 1992. He has been a referee in the NCAA Big East Conference for the past nine seasons, and worked the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight round of competition in the past two seasons.

Stephens has served as the City's Athletic Coordinator for 14 years, and before that coached many seasons for the Davey Lopes Recreation Center. He was one of the founders of the Rhode Island Breakers AAU basketball program, and is currently the president of the West Elmwood Intruders Youth Football Team.

In addition to his work as Athletic Coordinator, Stephens has mentored many Providence youth, encouraging them to make the right decisions and pursue a college education to make their dreams a reality.
