Welcome to the City of Providence Emergency Management Agency website, an invaluable information source that will that will help make you, your family and your neighbors safer and better equipped to deal with an emergency.
I am pleased to tell you the City has been working to fully prepare our community for a natural disaster or terrorist attack. We have created an Emergency Control Board and Emergency Operating Center to provide critical public services and emergency assistance to you, if a disaster occurs. We have created new programs and conducted numerous drills, have established a Medical Management Response System, and established a distribution network for pharmaceuticals, if needed. This website will provide you will helpful tips you need on how to cope with a disaster. We also have useful links to more detailed information on different types of attacks or storms and how best to prepare.
Although the City can respond to disasters as they occur, you are the best resource for preparing your family. Use the information we have outlined on how to create an emergency kit and an emergency plan to prepare your loved ones for the unexpected, and to stay safe.
Stockpile supplies for basic survival: water, non-perishable food, medical supplies, blankets, first aid kits and other emergency equipment. Also put aside batteries, a portable radio, and flashlights. Keep your vehicles filled with gas, in case of evacuation; listen to news reports, and be ready. And put a plan in place for both if your family is together or separated in such an event.
Be prepared. Stay calm. Share this information with loved ones and neighbors, look out for one another, and stay safe.
