Fugitive arrested in connection to May 26 Prairie Avenue homicide
Fugitive arrested in connection to May 26 Prairie Avenue homicide
Providence, RI- Sammy Mateo, age 25, was shot in the early morning hours of May 26th while in the vicinity of 512 Prairie Avenue. Mateo died at Rhode Island Hospital on June 11, 2012. Mateo was the 6th homicide in Providence this year.
This investigation led Providence Police to the identification of a suspect, Naroid Feliz, age 35, and an arrest was obtained. Police believe Feliz fled the state shortly after the murder.
A continuing effort to apprehend Feliz led to his arrest by US Marshals in Atlanta, Georgia on October 3, 2012. The US Marshals and RI Violent Fugitive Task Force were involved in this effort. He is currently being held in the State of Georgia pending extradition proceedings.
