Providence Police, Federal Hill House to host holiday events
For the first time the two will host both events together
PROVIDENCE, RI- October 6, 2011--The Federal Hill House Association and the Providence Police Department's District 3 and District 4 Substations recently announced that they'll host a Thanksgiving dinner/celebration in November and a holiday toy/food drive in December for needy families of Providence's Federal Hill, West Side, and Washington Park areas. The dates and the details of the events are to be announced. Sponsorship of both events is needed to support these efforts and make both events successful. Individuals and organizations interested in sponsoring one or both events can contact Nina Pande at the Federal Hill House Association, either by telephone (401-421-4722) or e-mail (ninapande@federalhillhouse.org).
"The downturn in our economy continues to hit people hard, especially in Providence," says Acting Police Chief Hugh Clements. "In tough times like these everyone needs to pull together. Hosting these events gives us a chance to help our citizens have great holidays and to forge lasting relationships with residents in these communities. I want to thank the Federal Hill House Association for working with us on this and Lieutenants Luis San Lucas and Lt. John O'Connor for spearheading these events."
The Thanksgiving dinner/celebration will take place at the Federal Hill House community center at 9 Courtland Street in Providence. The dinner's time will be announced along with the date. The two groups will also announce the dates for the holiday toy/food drive as well as when and where individuals can drop off donations of an unwrapped new toy, new children's clothes, or a non-perishable food item for the drive. Five locations on Providence's West Side served as drop-offs for donations last year.
"This is the first time that the Providence Police Department and our agency will host two events together," says Nina Pande, Executive Director, Federal Hill House Association. "Last year, we partnered with the Providence Police District 4 Substation through the efforts of Officer Michele Rudolph. We held a toy/food drive donations in the Federal Hill/West End community that provided holiday cheer to over 200 families at a critical time. This year we're expanding the program to include the District 3 Substation area (Washington Park) with help from Officer Shay Chin. We look forward to our continued partnership with the Providence Police in hosting these events."
