Providence Police make swift apprehension in Bergen Street shooting

PROVIDENCE, RI- On January 18 at approximately 11:17pm Providence Police responded to 66 Bergen Street for a report of a shooting. The girlfriend of the victim reported that her boyfriend Wilfred Ramos, age 29, entered the house bleeding and stated that he was shot during and attempted robbery. Patrolman Brian Muldoon was first on the scene and found Ramos lying on the kitchen floor bleeding heavily from his left leg. Ramos stated that two black male subjects in hooded sweatshirts approached him at the back door and said, "Give us all your money." One subject was holding a shotgun and shot Ramos in the left leg, severely injuring him. Both subjects fled from the scene. Nothing was taken from Ramos.

Providence Police continued the investigation and on February 16 Detective Ronald Riley responded to RI Hospital and met with Wilfred Ramos, where he is still recovering from his injuries. Ramos was able to identify Jose Dagraca, age 18 of Providence as the person who shot him. Based on this identification a warrant was obtained for Dagraca for assault with intent to rob. On February 20 a wanted photo of Dagraca was distributed to Providence patrol officers at roll call. At 3:45pm, shortly after he began his tour of duty, Patrolman Brian Muldoon was on an unrelated call and observed Jose Dagraca and recognized him from the wanted photo. Patrolman Muldoon stopped the subject who identified himself as Jose Dagraca and placed him into custody without incident. Dagraca was charged and held for the next session of 6th District Court.
