Providence Police Officers Complete Mid-Management Course at Roger Williams University

BRISTOL, R.I., December 10,2010 - The Justice System Training and Research Institute at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I., in partnership with the New England Association of Chiefs of Police, recently recognized Lieutenant Alyssa DeAndrade, Lieutenant Sandra Kittell, Lieutenant John O'Connor, Lieutenant Timothy O'Hara, and Lieutenant Oscar Perez of the Providence, RI Police Department for the successful completion of the "Command Training Series: Mid-Management Course," a two-week comprehensive training program for police mid-level supervisory personnel.

Coursework addressed contemporary concepts of management and leadership relevant to the responsibilities of a middle manager in a modem criminal justice agency. The program, presented by experienced academics and law enforcement practitioners between November 29 and December 10, 20 I 0, discussed topics including operational leadership and management principles, emotional intelligence, data analysis, planning and project management, organizational and interpersonal communications, problem employees and conflict management, labor issues and legal research, organizational culture and change management, understanding the budget process, and contemporary and critical issues.

Graduates of the session represented police departments from throughout New England and included Lieutenants DeAndrade, Kittell, O'Connor, O'Hara, and Perez.
