Rhode Island Fugitive Wanted for Providence Murder
Arrested by U.S. Marshals Task Force in Alabama

Judier Dixon sought by Providence Police in June murder of Richard Arenas

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - A Providence man wanted in connection with the alleged murder of Richard Arenas of Providence on June 12, 2013, was arrested on Friday, July 26, in Eutaw, Alabama, by members of the U.S. Marshal Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force. Judier Dixon, 19, was located in a wooded area after he had fled from Task Force members.

Deputy Marshals from the District of Rhode Island worked with members of the Providence Police Department and Rhode Island State Police to develop information that Dixon had traveled to Alabama following the murder of Arenas. Deputy Marshals from Rhode Island worked in conjunction with the Deputy Marshals in Alabama and other law enforcement officers associated with the Gulf Coast Regional Task Force to locate and arrest Arenas.

Dixon's arrest is announced by United States Marshal Jamie A. Hainsworth, Providence Police Deputy Chief Thomas F. Oates III and Rhode Island State Police Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell.

On June 12, 2013, Providence Police responded to a shooting at 81 Leah Street, where they discovered Mr. Arenas who had been shot while he worked on his vehicle in his front yard. Providence Police developed information that provided probable cause to seek an arrest warrant for Judier Dixon charging him with the murder of Mr. Arenas.

Upon learning on Friday that Task Force members in Alabama were looking for him, Dixon fled into a wooded area. He was later apprehended during a search of the area.

Dixon is currently being held at the Green County Jail in Eutaw, Alabama, charged as a fugitive from justice, pending extradition proceedings.
