PRESS RELEASE

PROVIDENCE PREPARES FOR RECORD VOTER TURNOUT ON MARCH 4TH

Mayor Cicilline encourages residents to contact Board of Canvassers to verify their polling places

PROVIDENCEMayor David N. Cicilline today announced steps the City’s Board of Canvassers is taking in preparation for Tuesday’s Presidential Primary Election.   The Mayor has directed the Board of Canvassers to place additional privacy booths in polling sites where heavy turnout is anticipated.  Residents will be greeted with new permanent metal signs at each of the City’s 31 polling places.

Since there are fewer polling places during Primary Elections than during General Elections, Mayor Cicilline encouraged residents to contact the Board of Canvassers to verify their voting locations at 421-7740 x203.  Residents may also obtain information on polling locations by visiting the City’s website at www.providenceri.com and typing in their address.   The Board of Canvassers has also reached out to residents through advertisements in local newspapers.

“As voters prepare to cast their ballots to nominate their choice for the next President of the United States, I want to make sure they know exactly where to go to cast their ballot,” said Mayor Cicilline.

The Mayor also reached out to the Rhode Island Board of Elections requesting additional ballot boxes at eight Providence polling locations in which the total number of eligible voters exceeds four thousand.  In addition, supervisors will be stationed at each of the City’s 31 polling locations to oversee the voting process.
