WHAT: Funded by US SAILING through a grant from The John and Nelly Kilroy Foundation, the goal of this three-week/eight-session (July 8-29) program was to teach life lessons to children enrolled in the Providence After School Alliance (PASA), through the myriad of skills involved in learning to sail. Lessons were conducted by US SAILING certified instructors at the Community Boating Center, located at India Point Park in Providence.
WHY: The Mayor’s Cup, featuring Providence Major David Cicilline, is the closing ceremony that celebrates the participants’ accomplishments while taking part in US SAILING’s Kialoa Summer Leadership Initiative.
WHO: The program is a unique partnership with US SAILING, the Community Boating Center (CBC), and the Providence After School Alliance (PASA).
US SAILING – The national governing body of the sport provides leadership for the sport in the United States.
CBC - Dedicated to providing accessible, affordable and diverse sailing opportunities for young people.
PASA - Network of public and private community partners working together to increase and expand high-quality after school programming that includes sports and recreation.
