PROVIDENCE – The Providence Department of Public Works (DPW) is encouraging residents to take advantage of the City’s free collection of bulky items on trash day such as televisions, furniture, mattresses, refrigerators, washers and other large appliances. The free service is designed to improve the quality of life in neighborhoods by ensuring that large discarded bulky items do not become eyesores in the city’s neighborhoods.
The City will continue to pick up large items on trash day, free-of-charge. However, residents are now required to contact the Waste Management call center at 800-972-4545 at least 24 hours before their regularly scheduled trash collection day to request a pick up.
§ Residents may schedule a maximum of three large items for pick up.
§ Residents should be prepared to describe each item they would like picked up when they call Waste Management.
§ Only the items scheduled for pick up will be removed.
§ Items should be placed at the curb no earlier than 4pm on the evening before the scheduled pick up.
E-Waste
Waste Management will also pick up unwanted e-waste such as computers and monitors. Residents may also dispose of their e-waste in the specially designated “e-waste pods” located in the parking lot of DPW at 700 Allens Avenue between the hours of 8:30am until 4:30pm. State law prohibits the disposal of e-waste in trash.
For more information on the Department of Public Work’s new policy for bulky items, contact the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services at 421-2489 or visit the City’s website at www.providenceri.com.
