Providence - The forecast is big snow. That’s usually good news for the hometown favorites - the New England Patriots. As they head off to the Reliance Stadium in Houston, Texas, Mayor Cicilline and Mayor Patrick McCrory of Charlotte, North Carolina, wagered a friendly bet - the losing mayor sports the opposition jersey, in the office, on the day they return to work.

The two mayors agreed today to the wager, in a friendly telephone conversation, in anticipation of the big game.

“I told Mayor McCrory, the Patriots always do their best when there’s snow,” said Mayor Cicilline, “so with a foot or more predicted back home, we know there will be a big win on Sunday.”

Mayor McCrory responded with his own prediction: "The Carolina Panthers are going to win and I'm looking forward to seeing Mayor Cicilline in a Panthers shirt. The Panthers won't need any good luck charms, like snow, to help them win, but with Charlotte's unusual snow and ice storm this week, we can also use that as a good sign for our Panthers because much like the snow, the Panthers have surprised the nation."

Cicilline, who will be attending the game in Houston at his own expense, contacted Robert Kraft yesterday with an invitation to host a ‘victory rally,’ after the Patriots return home from their season-finish.

“We promise you an enormous response from your New England fans. Providence is, truly, Patriots country,” said Cicilline in his letter to Robert Kraft.

The rally will be open to Patriots fans from throughout the region, with more details to follow. Robert Kraft invited Mayor Cicilline to join other dignitaries at a post-game party.

“I am a big Patriots fan,” said the Mayor - a former fullback in high school. “I am thrilled about watching this great football team - our Pats -- go up against the Carolina Panthers, and to bring the spirit and best wishes of area fans,” he said.

All of the Mayor’s expenses related to the trip will be paid for personally by Mayor Cicilline, including his ticket to the game, hotel, airfare and other expenses. He is attending the game at the invitation of New England Patriots owner, Robert Kraft. He leaves for Houston on Saturday, January 31.
