Department Mission
The mission of the Department of Public Works is to efficiently maintain, preserve, and protect the City's infrastructure resources relating to roads, bridges, sewer and storm water collection, solid waste collection and disposal, traffic movement controls; to provide guidance and assistance to citizens/communities with the development and protection of property by implementing safe and uniform standards; and, to provide a safe environment through enforcement of environmental ordinances and regulations.
Objectives
The primary objectives of the DPW are:
- Monitoring of public improvements by reviewing plans, designs, and engineering studies;
- Compliance with Regulatory Provisions related to Public Works Programs as they are instituted by Federal or State Agencies;
- Oversight of solid waste collection and disposal;
- Administration of the City's recycling program;
- Maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, bridges, and sewer lines;
- Cleaning of the City's streets;
- Removal of snow and ice;
- Maintenance of traffic control equipment and parking meters.
