Our "Whole Community" Partners

The Emergency Management mission in Providence cannot be done without solid public-private partnerships with our "Whole Community" partners. We are proud to have many great relationships across the City and the State.

We have been recently recognized for our efforts in Emergency Management magazine and by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

In the September 2009 issue of Emergency Management magazine, an article entitled "Providence, R.I.: A Model for Public-Private Partnerships in Emergency Management", hi-lighted the building of our Emergency Operations Center and Port Area Waterside Security System (PAWSS); both not possible without rock-solid partners.

On 8 September 2010, Providence was recognized by FEMA in press release entitled, "New FEMA Web Resources Promote Public-Private Partnerships Nationwide." FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate summed up the importance of partnerships saying, "Public-private partnerships are an important tool in increasing preparedness and keeping communities safe. No matter how much those of us in government do to prepare, we will only be successful if we engage the private sector as part of the team. By utilizing their established supply networks and services, we can get information and supplies to people quickly and effectively before, during, and after a disaster."
