Archives Acquires Rare Atlas BooksTwo city atlas books dating from the 1860s and containing nearly 90 hand colored plates were recently acquired by the City Archives. The renderings hand drawn by draftsmen at the City Engineer's Office, depict property owned by the City of Providence just after the Civil War. Each plate gives detailed information on lot and building dimensions and acquisition history. The work was carried out between 1868 and 1873.
The archives plans to scan each drawing and make them available on line to researchers.
