In monthly-index recently released, University of Rhode Island economist, Professor Leonard Lardaro, reports "the state has economic momentum unmatched since 2003."
Professor Lardaro's Current Conditions Index rose to 92 in December, the highest mark in eight years (November 2003). He says it was its strongest in "overall momentum (not levels, though) for quite some time."
All but one of his 12 economic indicators showed improvement, a number with strong performances. Only government employment did not grow, reflecting what he said was "ongoing fiscal consolidation." His conclusion: "It is now safe to conclude that as 2012 ended, Rhode Island's economy shifted into a higher gear."
