The Mission of the Providence Fire Prevention Bureau is the protection of life from fire and other emergencies through:
Public Education
- Training children in:
- fire safety
- fire awareness
- accident prevention.
- Training adults in additional areas such as:
- fire extinguisher use
- evacuation procedures
- fire alarm drills
- accident prevention for the elderly.
Smoke Detector distribution program
Provides for the distribution of smoke detectors to low income and elderly people to insure safe living.

Plan Review
The review of all plans for construction to insure that they meet the current fire and life safety codes
Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide Inspections
To insure the proper number, location, installation and operation at the time of all ownership transfers.
Complaint Investigation
Investigation of complaints of unsafe or hazardous conditions, illegal occupancies, and defective alarm systems.
Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Program
To intervene early with a child to educate and rehabilitate juvenile fire setters.
Fire Arson Prevention and Investigation
To determine the cause and origin of all fires. These findings are used to determine if the fire was intentionally set or accidental in nature. If intentionally set, the findings are used to help apprehend the responsible party. If accidental in nature, the findings are used to target areas or populations that may need increased fire safety education.
