Providence Fire Department begins 50th Training Academy
Mayor, Commissioner of Public Safety, Acting Fire Chief welcomed new recruits this morning
PROVIDENCE, RI- Mayor Angel Taveras, Public Safety Commissioner Steven M. Paré, Acting Fire Chief Michael Dillon and members of the Providence Fire Department this morning welcomed 55 trainees as they began the 22 week Providence Fire Department Training Academy. This is the 50th Training Academy for the Providence Fire Department. Of the class of 55 candidates, there are 23 residents of Providence, three women, and 17 minorities. Including women, this is a 36% minority class. Between the 49th and the 50th fire academy, 66 city residents have been recruits. The Providence Fire Department Division of Training is located at 274 Reservoir Avenue.
"We welcome the trainees to the 50th Providence Fire Department Training Academy. These men and women have undergone a rigorous selection process and will be prepared by the Division of Training staff to meet the response challenges the Providence Fire Department faces in the 21st century," said Acting Fire Chief Michael Dillon.
