2013 Summer Mayoral Fellow Program
Thank you for your interest in serving as a 2013 Summer Mayoral Fellow in the City of Providence!
FELLOWSHIP DESCRIPTION:
The Mayoral Fellowship is a unique experience for students with a passion for public policy and administration at the municipal level. Mayoral Fellows work under the direct supervision of a Department Director on a high-impact project designed to improve the quality of life for Providence residents. Previous Fellows have worked on projects ranging from developing the City's first-ever Sustainability Action Plan to researching policy reforms regarding city procurement from minority and women owned business enterprises.
The Fellowship is designed for rising undergraduate juniors or seniors. Graduate students in advanced degree programs are also encouraged to apply, and every effort will be made to match Fellows with the project and/or Department of their choice.
Fellows participate in a twice-weekly brown bag speaker series planned in coordination with a similar internship program in the office of the Lieutenant Governor. In the summer of 2012, Fellows heard from a diverse range of practitioners in the public realm including journalists, elected officials and private sector leaders.
Fellows are also expected to design a finished product to be showcased in an end-of-Fellowship expo where they will brief the Mayor and other senior members of his staff on their work.
COMPENSATION:
The Fellowship is a full-time experience. Fellows work 35 hours/week for ten weeks, with a one week paid vacation. Fellows have historically received a $2,000 stipend for participating in the program. We are also pleased to work with students interested in pursuing the Fellowship for academic credit.
