Informational session on February 12 for artists, organizations interested in applying for a grant; followed by workshop on leveraging City services to make public events successful.
The City of Providence is now accepting proposals for the Celebrate Providence! 2013 Neighborhood Performing Arts Initiative, as the Providence Department of Art, Culture + Tourism prepares for another summer of theater, dance, music and other live performances in Providence's neighborhoods.
The Neighborhood Performing Arts Initiative awards funding to nonprofit community and arts organizations to create high-quality programs that complement the unique characteristics of Providence neighborhoods and foster a sense of community pride.
Awards range from $500 to $4,000 per project and only one proposal will be accepted from each organization. The deadline to submit proposals is February 28 at 4 p.m.
Participating organizations must be located in Providence to be eligible for the grants. Programming must take place in neighborhoods and public spaces in Providence between July 1 and September 1, 2013.
Organizations that have been in existence for three years or less may not apply for grants worth more than $1,500. Veteran organizations that have been active for more than four years may request up to $4,000.
In order to encourage new groups to apply, there is an additional grant category this year to help seed activities for organizations in existence for three years or less.

Interested applicants for Neighborhood Performing Arts Initiative grants may attend a free informational session on February 12 from 5:30pm to 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at Providence College/Smith Hill Annex, 231 Douglas Avenue.
Accessing City Resources
Organizers are encouraged to stay for the "Accessing City Resources" workshop that will immediately follow in the same location from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The free workshop hosted by Wendy Nilsson, the Director of the Partnership for Providence Parks, will show community leaders how to leverage city services to make public events successful.
