Department of Public Property

The Department of Public Property manages the physical assets of Providence's City government, including public school buildings. We strive to ensure Providence residents have access to high-quality, secure and well-maintained public infrastructure. The Department of Public Property is also responsible for managing the City's purchasing of goods and services.

Purchasing

The department's Purchasing Office is responsible for acquiring high-quality goods and services for Providence residents from the lowest responsible bidders. The purchasing office is committed to transparent, competitive bid processes on all purchases and sales.

Pursuant to the City of Providence's rules and regulations, the purchasing office works closely with local businesses, including Providence's minority- and women-owned enterprises, to maximize business opportunities for Providence's local vendors.

Board of Contract and Supply

The Department of Public Property shall also be responsible for the Board of Contract and Supply, for all purchasing and procurement of materials, supplies, contractual services, equipment and all other necessary categories of procurement for the city. The City Clerk's Department clerks the Board of Contract and Supply.

The Division of Purchasing oversees the purchasing of supplies for the city under the Department of Public Property. The Board of Contract and Supply is empowered with advertising, overerseeing and administering all procedures for purchases exceeding $5,000.

MBE/WBE Vendors

The City of Providence's Minority and Women-owned Business (MBE/WBE) Procurement Program demonstrates the City's continued commitment to the success of minority- and women-owned businesses. Minority- and women-owned businesses interested in participating in the MBE/WBE program must be at least 51 percent owned and controlled by a minority or woman and be City-certified.
