Incident at Neutaconkanut Park

PROVIDENCE, RI - On January 2, 2013 at approximately 4:40pm, Providence Police and Fire were dispatched to 675 Plainfield Street (Neutaconkanut Park) for a report of a female injured while sledding in the park.

The victim was identified as Alexandria Alvarez, 17, of 68 Larch Street in Providence. Alvarez was transported by Providence Rescue No.2 to Rhode Island Hospital, where she was pronounced dead yesterday at approximately 8pm. An autopsy is scheduled for today at the Rhode Island Medical Examiner's Office.

The park has been closed to sledding at this time. The City is installing snow fences at the top and bottom of the slope and a Park Ranger is being assigned to the park to prevent people from sledding.
