Department of Environmental Services
Welcome to the City of Providence Environmental Department web page. We hope that our online presence will make it easier for you to use our resources. The Department Of Environmental Services is one of the most unique and helpful in beautifying the city of Providence. The function of Environmental Services is to provide effective environmental management to the people of Providence. We want every resident to be confident that they live in a safe and healthy place. The very dedicated Bien Garcia heads Environmental Services. His personal mission has become what the department thrives on “to aid our citizens in a proper and safe way to help our environment.”
From trash disposal to rodent control, the goal of our department is to conserve, reuse, and beatify. Recycling helps the environment by slowing down the rate at which we have to put trash in landfills. With fewer landfills we can have more space for people to farm, live, and work. Recycling also helps by reducing our need to consume fresh natural resources to make new products. As a result we can save these resources for use in future generations. Most importantly, recycling saves energy and reduces pollution. This could help slow down global climate change, another environmental problem caused by burning fossil fuels like oil and gas.
The average American produces 4.6 lbs of solid trash each day. Americans also produce 230 million tons of trash each year. Educating our citizens is our primary goal and is the most rewarding. We believe that with the proper tools and knowledge every resident in Providence can help keep our city beautiful.
