SUMMER PROGRAMS

Municipal Swimming Pools and Water Parks - 12 locations around the city. Opening day will be Monday, June 30th with operation hours from noon to five. For site locations please refer to attached sheet.

Federal Summer Lunch Program - Program begins on Thursday, June 26th at over 130 sites. Sites include all pools and water parks. Children ages 15 and under are eligible for this service.

Providence Neighborhood Basketball League -Offered to Boy's and Girl's 15 and under at 7 sites in the city. The league is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 30th. Refer to attached sheet for site locations.

Camp Cronin Summer Camp - Groups interested in a day of sun and fun, our South County summer camp is available for all Providence organizations. The department will provide each group with a free cookout and use of the facilities and grounds. Activities can be planned by each individual organization.

Evenings in the Neighborhoods - The department sponsors numerous neighborhood cookouts at various sites. The evening is filled with food, activities and a variety of entertainment. For further information, call Special Events Coordinator Randy Ashe.

Button Hole Golf Program - Learn the game of golf this summer at the Button Hole teaching center. The department ha secured instruction times each Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday during the summer months to offer children the opportunity to learn to play golf. For information, call Assistant Athletic Coordinator Michael Hassett.

High School Basketball Leagues - The Neutaconkanut Recreation Center is the site for the Boy's and Girl's high school basketball leagues. Come see some of the local talent from various parts of the city and state. This program runs from Monday through Thursday 5:30 to 9:30pm during July and August. For information, call Athletic Coordinator Michael Stephens.

Mashpoag Pond Boating - Each Wednesday from 10:00am to noon during July and August, the department will offer children the Mashpoag Pond Boating Program. Learn all aspects of this activity during the summer. For information, call Michael Stephens.

Dance With Me - Each Monday from 9:00am to noon at the Neutaconkanut Recreation Center, the department will offer instructional dance sessions for Girl's ages 7 - 12 years old. This program will run during July and August. For information, call Terry Cruz.

Summer Day Camps - For residents of the Mount Hope and South Providence neighborhoods, The Vincent Brown and South Providence Recreation Center's offer daily summer camp programs from the hours of 8:00am to 5:00pm. A variety of fun activities are planned each day. For information, please refer to the attached sheet for the phone numbers of these two recreation centers.

Summer Instructional Tennis - The department will sponsor an instructional tennis program three days a week at Hope and Central High School tennis courts. The days of these clinics will be Monday through Wednesday from 9am to 2pm. Shorts are recommended, pants are acceptable. Sneakers and t-shirts are mandatory. Midnight Basketball Leagues - Sponsored by Citizens Bank, these popular summer programs take place Monday through Thursday from 6:00 to 11:00pm. The sites include Davis Park and Gano Street basketball courts. This program is offered to the adult population. For details, contact Lynn Johnson at 421 -7740 ext. 326.
