With this very tiny brush, the young and exuberant Hashagen paints meticulously crafted landscapes of urban and agricultural America. His exhibit at the BankRI Galleries is his first one-person show. Hashagen's paintings are quiet contemplative studies of the world around him. He is interested in familiar scenes that a person might come in contact with everyday. He aims to magnify those scenes and illuminate details that might be overlooked with a cursory glance.
"STATE OF THE ARTS IN RHODE ISLAND" Exhibit

URI Feinstein Providence Campus presents
The annual "STATE OF THE ARTS IN RHODE ISLAND" Exhibit June 2-27 with a Gallery Night Reception on June 19 from 5pm - 9pm.The exhibit features new works of art by URI, RIC and CCRI students, faculty, staff, alumni and retired faculty. Over the years, this exhibit has included hundreds of works of art in all media including ceramics, sculpture, photography, painting, drawing, printmaking, collage, assemblage, multimedia, fabric art along with costume and scenic design. Among the works exhibited have been projects involving whole classes of students at each of the three state schools of higher education. This exhibit also places the work of students along side of their mentor teachers' work, as well as alumni art beside their mentors teacher's work, often now retired but still creating new and exciting art. It is enlightening to see the impact of faculty on their student and sometimes the reverse. It is an indication of the paths taken by graduating students and their success in the field. This also highlights the vital place of the arts in the curriculum, the contributions made by the arts to successful interdisciplinary education, the direct connections with other fields of study and the impact of the arts on our society as a whole. The event is also a grand reunion for many students, faculty and alumni. It explores the new and exciting work being done and also hidden talents of faculty and staff whose major area is not visual art.The galley is located in the 1st and 2nd floor lobby URI Providence Campus 80 Washington St. Providence, RI. Hours M-TH9-9, F&S 9-4 closed Sundays and HolidaysFor information contact Steven Pennell 277-5206 or visit www.uri.edu/prov
RiverWalk: Before the Fires are LitEvenings of full WaterFire lightings, 5:30 p.m.Dates are: May 24, May 30, June 21, June 28, August 2, August 16, August 30, September 13, September 20, September 27, October 11Tour departs from the
John Brown House Museum$10 per personFor more information: Barbara Barnes(401) 273-7507 x62 or bbarnes@rihs.orgAfter the arrival of Roger Williams in 1636, rivers shaped the life of the city of Providence. The Colonial waterfront was the site of a thriving shipping economy for a young town. Eventually, factories and railroads turned attention away from the rivers and toward the land. After the 1950s, highways and bridges covered the waterways, and the rivers were forgotten. But that was yesterday! Today, architects and city planners are creating a "new" waterfront. Once again, the rivers take center stage. And no event commands more attention than Barnaby Evans' WaterFire. Smartly designed walkways, parks, and pedestrian bridges invite strolling, especially on summer evenings. Urban outdoor sculpture and beautiful civic and commercial buildings of varied architectural styles provide the setting for stories of Providence's fabled past and dynamic present. This walk shares the history of Rhode Island's capital city and the history of WaterFire.Reservations requested for this tour. For schedule of WaterFire lightings: www.waterfire.org, or (401) 272-3111. This walk is offered in collaboration with WaterFire.</description
