>Stillman, Stoltzman and Reynolds to perform Beethoven and Zemlinsky</title
><description
>Pianist Judith Lynn Stillman of RIC will collaborate with Grammy Award-winning clarinetist Richard Stoltzman and Muir String Quartet cellist Michael Reynolds in the Wednesday Chamber Music Series concert, "Trios for Clarinet, Cello and Piano by Beethoven and Zemlinsky."
The event will be held on Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. in the Nazarian Center's Sapinsley Hall.
Stillman said of the music program: "Beethoven is music that sparkles and Zemlinsky catches the soul. It's the juxtaposition which pairs them so well."
After the concert there will be an open forum question-and-answer session. "This creates a great rapport between audience and artist," Stillman said. "We get a wide range of questions and a wide range of questioners. It gives us all a real sense of community."
Stillman is artist-in-residence at Rhode Island College and director of the Wednesday Chamber Music Series. She was the youngest person ever admitted to the doctoral program at Juilliard. Upon graduation she was awarded the Dethier Prize for Outstanding Pianist.
In a review of an album Stillman recorded with double Grammy Award-winner Wynton Marsalis, the New York Daily News said, "[She] receives equal billing with Marsalis on the cover and deserves it - her playing is crisp and confident."
Stoltzman, a two-time Grammy award winner, was the first wind player to be awarded the Avery Fisher Prize, in 1986. He has collaborated as a soloist with over a 100 orchestras, and performed as a recitalist, chamber musician and jazz artist. He is noted for his double lip embouchure, wide vibrato, the ability to mimic the sound of a human voice on his clarinet and his combination of traditional and contemporary classical and jazz material.
Reynolds is a founding member of the Muir String Quartet. His musical accomplishments while with Muir include winning the Naumburg Award, two Grand Prix du Disques, the Gramophone Award, and a Grammy nomination and Grammy Award on EcoClassics. He received an honorary doctorate in 1995 from Rhode Island College, where he frequently performs as part of the Muir Quartet.
Stillman has worked extensively with both artists before. She has played several different venues with Reynolds, as well as been a guest player with the Muir string quartet, and has played concerts and recorded with Stoltzman.</description

>JUMP! CELEBRATES ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY PERFORMING SCENES FROM THE POLAR EXPRESS AT THE NEWLY RENOVATED, STATE OF THE ART THEATRE AT THE NATHAN BISHOP SCHOOL</title
><description
>On Saturday, December 12th at 2 and 6 pm and on December 13th at 2 pm at the newly renovated and state of the art theatre at the restored Nathan Bishop School, JUMP!, the unique cutting edge youth dance company, featuring highly trained dancers ages 8-18, will present its holiday classic, SCENES FROM THE POLAR EXPRESS.
JUMP! winds up its 10th year of exciting programming by producing this holiday classic at a gem: the newly restored Nathan Bishop School on Elmgrove Avenue on the East Side of Providence. Artistic Director, Paula Hunter, is excited to be returning to the East Side for this holiday favorite. "We produced a site specific POLAR last year at the Nordstrom Store at Providence Place mall and reached out to so many people! But to come back to where we began this venture--on the East Side--is great. But best is that there is now this wonderful theatre on the East Side".
The work has evolved to a complex weaving of pictoral dance theatre. According to Hunter, the company's POLAR is a unique holiday classic because it focuses on exciting mainly abstract dances and equally exciting music. "What made this story very danceable was that it is a simple story, ripe for lots of dances--most of which can be seen on their own but when they come together the result is a beautiful tableaux of pure dance artistry.
Tickets can be reserved online for all 3 shows at: jumpdancecompany@gmail.com or by calling: 401.529.4391Prices are $10 adults and $5 children.More information about upcoming Jump! events can be found at jumpdancecompanynews.blogspot.com
DON'T MISS JUMP!'S 10th ANNIVERSARY PRODUCTION OF SCENES FROM THE POLAR EXPRESS! PERFORMANCES ARE ON DECEMBER 12 (2 pm and 6 pm) and DECEMBER 13 (2 pm). </description
