For any of the above projects or other renovation/installation involving water piping and drainage must follow these steps:

Those applying for permits are required by state law to hire a Rhode Island plumber with a master plumbing license in order to be issued a plumbing permit. Owners of a one (1) family residence do not have to hire a plumber – although it is recommended. Also, a plumbing permit is not required for minor plumbing repairs to drain piping.
  • Finding a plumber (we are not endorsing this link, but providing for you convienence - Remember, check all contractors with the atate and ask for references)
    • State of Rhode Island Department of Labor, Division of Professional Regulation, call 401-462-8525.
    • Come to the Department of Inspections to complete a plumbing permit application (Plumbing Permit Application)
    • Plumber must bring license and a copy of the building permit (for any renovations) to be approved for a plumbing permit
    • Once permit is obtained – plumber/resident must call and make appointments for inspections – (401) 421-7740 ext.364 or ext. 420
    • Best to call between 8:30am – 9:30am & 3:00pm – 4:30pm
    All projects require a rough inspection (midway through project – when rough installation is complete) and a final inspection at the end of project building Must also obtain an underground inspection if pertinent
