Week Two Standings
Team Tuesday increased its recycling rate to 17.1 percent during the week ending August 11. In the first two weeks of the Neighborhood Recycling Challenge, a contest between Providence neighborhoods to grow the city's recycling rate, residents whose trash and recycling are picked up on Tuesdays have increased their recycling by more than 10 percent.
Over all, the city-wide recycling rate is 0.6 percent below the starting 14.9 percent benchmark from May and June. Since the contest began, Providence residents have recycled over 350 tons of refuse.
Most neighborhoods improved performance during the second week of the challenge, compared to Week One. Team Monday increased their weekly recycling rate by 6 percent, compared to the first week of the contest. Monday's recycling rate is down 0.1 percent points, though, for the span of the challenge. Team Wednesday improved its weekly recycling rate by 4.2 percent last week, but their cumulative average is down 0.6 percentage points compared to the initial benchmark. Team Thursday increased its weekly recycling rate by 5 percent last week, but recycling is down 3 percentage points compared to the initial benchmark.
Team Friday saw a 1.4 percentage point drop in their weekly recycling rate. On average, Friday's recycling rate has held steady against the opening benchmark.
