Contact the state legislator leadership and let him/her know that you support increased state aid for our public schools!!!

Providence is our city,
and it needs our help!
  • We are facing a $59 Million budget gap and a $526 Million unfunded pension liability largely because of irresponsible management decisions from the past.
  • Governor's proposed budget includes no increase in aid to Providence Public Schools, which could have a devastating impact on our children.  Our School Department will be forced to layoff 128 people, eliminate instrumental music, art and technology programs.
  • City services, such as Police and Fire, will suffer from budget cuts.

What can we do to make a difference for Providence?

  • Help build a strong foundation for the City’s future so that we can move beyond this difficult time.
  • Write, email or call your state legislators demanding that they increase state funding for our public schools.

  • Write, email or call colleges and universities demanding that they pay a fair share because those institutions also have a stake in having good public schools, safe neighborhoods, clean streets and a vibrant economy.

  • Write Letters to the editor

  • Call talk shows

Citizen Speak let your voice be heard

Let Your Voice Be Heard!

Hundreds of city residents, leaders, and supporters turned out for Tuesday's "Providence, We Can!" rally at the State House. Thank you all for your continued support!

Here's what the Mayor is doing to make a difference:

  • Reduce costs and improve efficiency in all departments without decreasing the quality of service. Reduce management by nearly 14%. Defund positions.
  • Work with unions to look for ways to reduce the cost of labor

  • Cut cell phone use, restructure maintenance contracts, redesign employee health care benefits, and identify other ways to cut costs.
  • Implement bold new initiatives to raise money: new tow list out bid process, etc.

  • Negotiate with colleges and university to make financial payments to the City. They use City services like everyone else, but pay no taxes.
